The Story Behind Buy Me Some Moola

Buy Me Some Moola is inspired by buymeacoffee.com. Realizing that no one has built something similar with cryptocurrencies, I decided to build it. It is also a requested feature in their forum with a decent amount of upvotes. The name of the app is inspired by moola.market which is also one of the sponsors of the hackathon.

What it does

Buymesomemoola gives creators a simple way to get paid and connect with their fans. Fans can use celo cryptocurrencies to support their favorite creators.

Buy Me Some Moola gives fans a meaningful way to engage with their fans with options like sharing posts, describing their work.

Creators get to track their earnings and see how many people are supporting them. There are no hidden fees, 100% of the amount is transferred to their celo wallet.

The Tech stack we are using

  • CELO for making transactions
  • Next.js for frontend
  • tailwind CSS with daisyUI plugin for CSS
  • vercel for deployment
  • zustand for state management
  • MongoDB for database management
  • cloudinary to server images

Challenges we ran into

We had a difficult time integrating the library which interacts with the blockchain and other things related to it. Thanks to the celo and dacade community where I used to get help whenever I used to get stuck. Besides the blockchain part, it was overwhelming to complete the frontend of our application as I was the only developer on the team.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

It was a great experience building something within such a short period. We are glad it is having all the basic functionality that we planned.

What's next for Buy Me Some Moola

  • Helping creators make more moola by rewarding each supporter with minting an NFT when he/she supports a creator.
  • Make some content exclusive for supporters, where supporters can use their NFT keys that grant access to exclusive content.
