Inspiration
Our team started by brainstorming the various product wastes we encountered in our daily lives. Electronic waste was one of the top contributors, so we decided to build our project around decreasing e-waste.
What it does
We built a website that connects consumers to secondhand electronics that fit their needs. The website scrapes the websites of various secondhand suppliers and stores available products in a database, which is used to find the product that best matches the consumer's criteria.
How we built it
We used a serverless cluster provided by Cockroach Labs to build our database and a free website template for the website.
Challenges we ran into
On the front end, we were inexperienced using CSS to edit the website and had to learn quickly. On the back end, we needed to learn how to integrate Python and SQL while creating the database.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The website looks nice and is functional! :)
What we learned
This hackathon was definitely a crash course in CSS, Python, and SQL, and we feel that we have a lot just in the past 24 hours.
What's next for Butterfly Labs
We hope to expand our range of secondhand goods to include clothing and books. We also hope to have our domain name approved so we can connect it with our website.
