Inspiration

We recognized a significant gap in the legal system where everyday people face legal questions that don't warrant hiring an expensive lawyer, yet finding reliable answers online can be overwhelming and confusing. Many individuals avoid seeking legal guidance due to cost barriers, leaving them vulnerable to making uninformed decisions. We were inspired to democratize access to basic legal information and create a bridge between complex legal jargon and plain English understanding, empowering people to make informed decisions about their legal situations.

What it does

Butlawr is an AI-powered legal assistant that provides instant, understandable answers to common legal questions. Users can:

• Browse through categorized legal topics (Employment, Consumer Rights, Housing, Family Law, etc.)
• Provide context-specific information relevant to their situation
• Ask legal questions in natural language
• Receive structured, easy-to-understand responses with actionable insights
• Access relevant legal references and government resources
• Get jurisdiction-specific advice based on their location The platform prioritizes user privacy by not storing any personal information, ensuring complete confidentiality while providing reliable legal guidance.

How we built it

We developed Butlawr entirely using Bolt.new, an AI-powered development platform that enabled rapid prototyping and deployment:
