Inspiration

School bell rings, everyone is running towards the door, it's crowded, I'm tired, I can't find my bus. There was no efficient way to locate your bus at the end of the day especially if the school is overcrowded. This is due to some of the following reasons:

  1. tiny bus route signs
  2. people in the way
  3. bad eyesight
  4. the white-board that shows the buses is too small
  5. it's raining and you don't want to wait outside.

What it does

A layout of the bus loading zone is interactive by Admins so they can input the locations of buses. Only the Admins have permissions to update the map but Students have the ability to see where their bus is on the map. The purpose is to reduce amount of time spent looking for a desired bus.

How we built it

Android Studio

Challenges we ran into

  • Saving Admin changes so Students can see them.
  • Positioning elements currently on the screen.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Making my first app.
  • Very thematic

What we learned

  • Java
  • Android Studio
  • How to resolve crashes and bugs in AS.

What's next for Busy - the Transportation Informational app

  • Editable format: allow schools with different bus layouts and number of buses to customize the app.
  • Working notification system: the student can set a main bus route and receive a notification when it has arrived without being inside the app.
