Business Espoo is a new brand that combines 7 organizations in Espoo.

What problem are we solving for Business Espoo? After consolidating 7 components, Business Espoo finds difficulty when communicating their service packages to Espoo citizens and companies in Espoo.

What is the specific business problem that needs to be solved through product design? Business Espoo needs a solution that is cost-effective, easy-to-execute, and able-to-bring-fast-results.

How is Business Espoo currently communicating its services? They moved the 7 organizations’ office to A Grid - a startup hub in Espoo. However, at the moment, each component has its own channels to communicate with its audiences.

What motivates Business Espoo to solve this problem? They want to help more companies so that these companies can grow and contribute back to the community. Also, they want to support Espoo citizens to establish new businesses.

What is their current user journey to mitigate this problem? They are collecting new ideas on how to communicate the new brand Business Espoo.

What could the journey of Business Espoo look like with the implementation of this solution? Business Espoo will develop toward as a consumer brand which becomes more accessible for particularly small businesses. In fact, 98% of businesses in Espoo are SMEs.

Research:

We’ve looked through the websites of different Finnish cities’ business organizations. Tampere link Oulu link Turku link Helsinki link

We compared different websites to get an idea of what services they have, what do they do and how they present information. Besides, we’ve shared our experience on using those websites.

We realized that most of the resources have almost identical landing pages with a lot of scrolling. From our experiences, it's hard for us to find what we need and understand the whole concepts of what they offer.

Moreover, we’ve spoken with 4 people: Espoo representative, Business Espoo representative, entrepreneur in 1-person company and a big enterprise representative. So we had information on all their needs and thoughts.

Solution:

1. Website and app. The first decision was to make a simple and clear website, minimizing scrolling and clicking. You can have a whole picture at a first glance. We suppose that there are two types of companies (no matter if it’s a startup or an enterprise): some know what services they need, some of them don’t have any clear idea on that. That’s why our web page has two parts: business identification and exact popular services. You can click on the type of business you’re: Idea/Startup --- Growing business --- Enterprise. It’s mainly for those who don’t have concrete needs but at least can identify themselves. On the new page, they’ll see all the possible services for them. Besides, you can click on exact services which we’re showing below. These are based on websites’ research and talks with representatives. This could be changed or added, depending on seasonal aspects, for example. It appeared to be that, though big companies need relocation help a lot, not depending on the size of the company the main problem is recruiting. So it’s a very important part of menu, showing only the information on jobs partly for unregistered and full access after registration. Again, it’ll work for community growth. There should be a blog with regular posts (informational and announcements of events). Posts are a great help in internet indexing when people google something. So there’s also a work with keywords needed on the most popular browser requests on this topic.

2. **Events in Business Espoo There should be organized educational, networking and just entertainment events: to get information from Business Espoo representatives on different subjects(+invited special experts), to share experience, for networking and recruiting. These should be done through registration forms to help grow the community.

3. Online community (in Discord, for example) The main purpose of it is mentoring. All registered on website companies have access to it. There everybody can get help/advice from Business Espoo, other newcomers, and experienced companies. Later the purpose may become more diverse. The main thing is the feedback from the community on their needs. So at first, to this community should be invited companies who already work with Business Espoo. The can be asked to invite their partners or there could just be sent emails to Espoo companies to join. (It can be connected to some meet-up event for experience sharing)

4. Business Espoo identity Powered by Business Espoo mark on web pages of companies as a sign of reliability, collaboration and a part of the network. Companies who got help and while growing should become mentors, recruiters.

Solution

The idea is that we use the current community to build up a new community. A limited number of people in Business Espoo will face a lot of difficulties when trying to conduct a one-way communication to new larger audiences.

There are 2 components in the solution: Current Community and Kiosk

CURRENT COMMUNITY

  • Events in Business Espoo: There should be organized educational, networking and just entertainment events: to get information from Business Espoo representatives on different subjects(+invited special experts), to share experience, for networking and recruiting. These should be done through registration forms to help grow the community.

  • Online community: Its main purpose is for mentoring. All registered on website companies have access to it. There everybody can get help/advice from Business Espoo, other newcomers, and experienced companies. Later the purpose may become more diverse. The main thing is the feedback from the community on their needs.

So at first, to this community should be invited companies who already work with Business Espoo. The can be asked to invite their partners or there could just be sent emails to Espoo companies to join. (It can be connected to some meet-up event for experience sharing)

KIOSK

  • Kiosk: will be placed in different locations in Espoo such as library, startup hub, university. The goal is to boost brand awarenesses and make Business Espoo become more accessible. In the kiosk, there will be an Ipad application for visitors to access information.

Our team has a design architect and he believes the kiosks is the cost-effective solution.
