The problem isn't email.

The problem is that people spend too much time preparing to work instead of actually doing meaningful work.

As a business owner, I experienced this every day. Important customer inquiries were buried beneath newsletters, notifications, internal discussions, and routine conversations. The cost wasn't reading email—it was missing opportunities.

Business Dashboard was created to solve that problem.

It isn't another email client.

It's an AI-powered workspace that prepares your day before you begin.

AI prepares. Humans decide.

What it does

Business Dashboard connects to Gmail and continuously analyzes incoming emails using OpenAI models.

Instead of displaying another inbox, it identifies the conversations that actually matter and transforms them into actionable business opportunities.

The dashboard can:

  • Analyze incoming emails with AI
  • Detect potential business opportunities
  • Assign priorities automatically
  • Group related emails into a single opportunity
  • Surface only the work that deserves immediate attention

Instead of asking users to organize their inbox, Business Dashboard prepares everything so they can immediately focus on making decisions.

How we built it

Business Dashboard is a local-first desktop application built with Flutter.

It integrates with Gmail, stores data locally using SQLite, and uses OpenAI models to classify and prioritize emails.

However, AI wasn't only used inside the product.

The entire project was developed through continuous collaboration with AI.

Using Codex and ChatGPT, AI participated throughout the entire development process:

  • Product planning
  • UX and interface design
  • Architecture discussions
  • Feature implementation
  • Refactoring
  • Debugging
  • Documentation
  • README creation
  • Demo script
  • Presentation preparation

Rather than treating AI as a code generator, this project treats AI as a collaborative development partner.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest challenge wasn't connecting Gmail or integrating AI.

The real challenge was deciding what information should be shown to users.

Showing every email simply recreates another inbox.

Showing too little risks hiding important opportunities.

We spent significant time refining how AI identifies business opportunities, groups related conversations, and presents only the information that deserves attention.

Another challenge was building trust.

Users shouldn't have to wonder why AI marked something as important. The interface had to remain simple while making AI's decisions understandable.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that Business Dashboard feels fundamentally different from traditional email software.

Instead of organizing messages, it organizes work.

Instead of asking users to search for opportunities, it surfaces them automatically.

We're also proud that nearly every part of this project—from architecture to implementation, documentation, demo video, and presentation—was created through close collaboration with AI.

Most importantly, this isn't a prototype built around a fictional scenario.

It solves a real business problem that we experience every day.

What we learned

This project changed the way we think about software development.

The biggest lesson wasn't technical.

It was learning that AI creates the most value before people start working, not after.

We also learned that AI becomes dramatically more valuable when treated as a collaborative partner instead of a simple code generator.

The combination of human judgment and AI assistance allowed us to iterate faster, make better product decisions, and focus on solving real user problems.

Business Dashboard is only the beginning.

Our vision is to build an AI-powered workspace where communication, opportunities, and daily work come together in a single interface.
