Inspiration
We've seen the need for an interactive learning method in our community from a young age. Simply put, traditional classroom lectures fail to captivate young minds. So, we made Business Clash. It create a fun learning environment, with challenges associated with all concepts.
What it does
Business Clash is a game with a point system that is used to educate students on business concepts, leadership, and standards.
How we built it
This project was made using the Stencyl API. We used the programming language Haxe, which is a variation of JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
One struggle we faced was importing graphics into our game. Oftentimes, graphics would be sized incorrectly making certain assets far too large or far too small. To combat this issue, we used the graphics feature within Stencyl's API to resize images and create original designs.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to announce that we presented our project to a panel of judges. We placed second in the state of Georgia and competed nationally with this project.
What we learned
We found that when producing a game, the thoughts of the users are crucial. Therefore, it is beneficial to survey people during the production process to ensure that the game being made works well for users. In our production process, we didn't have people test aspects of our game until after a base model of the game was built. So, when we received constructive feedback, we had to go back and change aspects of the game, rather than doing it right the first time around.
What's next for Business Clash
We plan to modify our game to apply to many different topics, from Math subjects to Marketing. The design of our game allows us to simply change the questions to apply them to a completely different set of concepts.
Our Impact
For us, this game was not just a project; it was also an opportunity - to both show people the positive side of gaming and introduce young students to business concepts. We’re proud to announce that by hosting workshops at a local park and the SciKidz summer camp, we’ve successfully reached over 160 K-12 students, to share our game and message. We let students demo our game and also had the opportunity to speak with parents so that younger students could learn about Business Clash and potentially become avid business students one day.
