Inspiration

For "Business Basics for Dummies", we gained inspiration from 2D 8-bit top-down games such as the original Pokemon Games and Google's Doodle Champion Island Games for the 2020 Olympics. We drew heavy inspiration from their game mechanics and stylized design, and we couldn't have done it without them.

What it does

This is an intuitive, all-in-one platform designed to empower aspiring entrepreneurs with essential business knowledge. Our platform breaks down complex concepts into easy-to-understand lessons covering everything from finance and marketing to customer service. With interactive modules and real-world examples, 'Business Basics for Dummies' equips users with the tools they need to confidently start and grow their businesses. Join us in making entrepreneurship achievable for everyone!"

How we built it

We built "Business Basics for Dummies" using Pygame, a cross-platform set of Python modules designed for writing video games. Additionally, we used GIMP, a free and open-source raster graphics editor used for free-form drawing and image editing, to

Challenges we ran into

Arnav and I are beginners at coding, and our coding knowledge extends as far as the first year of a computer science course at school. He and I know basic Java, and he has limited experience in Python. At the beginning of the hackathon, we planned to code "Business Basics for Dummies in the Unity Game Engine, but after realizing that Unity was much harder than it seemed, we moved on to research another option to create our game. This is where we found Pygame and GIMP.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As mentioned above, we are very proud of expanding our knowledge in Python and GIMP, as well as creating "that teaches important entrepreneurial skills and lessons to the next generation!!

What we learned

During the coding process in Pygame and creating graphics in GIMP, there was a sharp learning curve as we had little experience in Python and no time spent using GIMP. We learned how to use these software and how to work together as a team.

What's next for Business Basics for Dummies

As we did have a very limited time frame, Arnav and I would aim to add more buildings and characters into the game, like a factory for product development or a courthouse for business torts. Additionally, we would expand the ending of the game with more scenes in EVIL CORP.
