Inspiration

Our inspiration for this project was the ongoing climate crisis. As a society, we are just starting to see the negative impacts that our ways have on the environment, and by completing this project we hope to show users that their carbon emission levels are higher than they think. We also hope that those who use our program and are surprised by the results make active changes in their lives to help support our environment in this trying time.

What it does

The Carbon Emissions Calculator (CEC) uses several pieces of information provided by the user and calculates the approximate number of tonnes of Carbon Dioxide that the user emits into the environment annually.

How we built it

We built this project using Python and a package called PySimpleGUI, which we were able to install locally to our machines via the built-in Windows Command Prompt.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into several challenges during our journey, including learning to use the PySimpleGUI package. However, we were able to take advantage of several free tutorial videos and web pages on the Internet, so we were able to overcome it in the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The main thing that we are proud of is our teamwork skills. We were able to work cohesively and effectively to create our idea and form our idea in time. Then, we were able to work together to write all of the code and

What we learned

We learned many different coding concepts while coding this project, such as the principles of creating a user-friendly GUI, how to actually create a GUI in Python, and how to effectively visualize an idea before its actual creation.
