Inspiration
It is quite stressful to keep track of small fees paid, and the issued receipts can easily get lost. I wanted a way to know what's paid, the balance, and the next due date, so I created Bursly.
What it does
Bursly helps students track their tuition payments. It shows your progress in a clean dashboard allowing you to keep track of your payments and upcoming deadlines
How we built it
I used HTML, CSS, a little JavaScript for the frontend and PHP for the backend and ran it locally using XAMPP.I used a MYSQL database to store mock data and ensured a clean simple design.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the database to fetch and store the right data without errors and trying to learn how to write secure PHP code and sanitize user input. Designing a simple UI that is very functional.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Creating a fully working system completely on my own shows my growth as a budding developer. Learnt how to write more secure PHP
What we learned
I learnt to stay focused even when things got frustrating. I also got better at seeing things from the user's point of view and taking in feedback to improve the system.
What's next for BURSLY TUITION TRACKER
Improve the UI and add SMS reminders for payments, and I'd also love to connect it with MPESA and other payment methods for automatic payment tracking.
