Inspiration

We were inspired when all of the team members talked about the things that caused them stress, like lack of sleep, a lot of tests, etc. We then thought about turning our complaints into a website, and that is how Burnout Beacon was born.

What it does

It consists of many pages. The home and reasoning page explain how and why this is a good product, but the actual use case is in the wellness check. The wellness check quizzes the user about their day so far, and then calculates a score based off of those results. The higher the score is, the worse off the quiz viewed your mental health to be, so try to be honest since the data is all local (stored in localStorage() ).

How we built it

We originally wanted to do a minecraft mod for Interactive Learning, but we changed to Mental Health after finding out a better idea, but the "Beacon" part stuck with us. We then started to constuct a version of it in Python, but after finding out that it lacked some dependencies that we needed, we quickly switched to HTML and web development to create it.

Challenges we ran into

When we were making it in Python, we had to quickly transfer to HTML and web development since Python didn't work for this specific scenario. (or maybe it worked and we just didn't know how to work it). This forced us to make changes, but ultimately I am proud of how we handled the situation and the final product since it is better in HTML than Python

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of helping develop a full on website that has an actual effect on real people.

What we learned

I learned that when we are forced to change really quickly, we will prevail if we have a good team. I also learned how to work in a group full of friends without constantly getting dragged off into shenanigans.

What's next for Burnout Beacon

We hope to add proper databases, React, APIs, SQL, and so much more.
