Inspiration
College roommates are a hit or miss. Sometimes they become your best friend, but other times, they can become your worst enemy. However, the more you know your potential roommate, the better you'll get along, and you can be confident that you'll have a great college experience. Inspired by popular apps such as Tinder, we reincorporated the concepts to serve our roommate needs.
What it does
Our app allows you to match with potential roommates based on your preferences. You can see and message people's profiles, unlike many college roommate systems.
How we built it
We built the app using the Flutter Framework and FireBase, and we coded all components in Dart. To create the icon and logo, we used Procreate and Photoshop 2019.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge we experienced while making the project was working together in a single workspace, since we were online participants. We were able to combat this issue using VSLive and Discord to effectively work together. Sometimes we encountered technical difficulties on everyone's laptops while setting up software, but we were able to troubleshoot together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of implementing a registering system using FireBase and the app's UI design.
What we learned
We learned how to utilize the Flutter Framework for mobile development. The less experienced members also learned how to write basic Dart code. We also gained experience using git commands.
What's next for Bunkie
In the future, we will focus on fixing bugs, optimizing the UI, and creating simple animations. We also want to implement a subscription based service, which would allow users to find better matches. The future is open.
