Inspiration
I have another app, Livity. It's currently doing €100k revenue per month, and I'm close to €1M a year. That's the lift that pushed me to go indie hacking.
But for some time I've felt that I just got lucky, because of Livity.
So when I saw Shipaton happening, I wanted to prove to myself and to others that I can do it once again. And I decided to prove it publicly: my announcement post
Building right now is easy because of AI. So I tried to show my followers the pitfalls that might happen along the way, and most importantly how to do marketing — just copying the same patterns that I did for Livity.
Regarding the project itself: I don't have kids yet, but in my circle lots of friends are starting to have them, and they're all tracking things in their apps. As an app guy I wanted to check this out, and I missed emotion and warmth in those apps.
So all in all — Shipaton is coming, I see a potential app that might be useful for my friends (and for me one day haha), and a perfect opportunity to prove everyone wrong. Myself included.
That's when I started it.
And what a journey it was.
I had 1 month:
→ Joined #Shipaton by @RevenueCat → Built and launched a new app → Spent €2,000 on it → Earned €54 so far (trust the process 🫡) → Grew from 134 to 540 followers → Tried selling ad space on my forehead 🧠 → Somehow squeezed in a week of volleyball camp 🏐
Now the app is ready, and tomorrow (September 5th) I'm leaving for the Camino (the French Way). So yeah — one day before the trip, I added a pregnancy feature to the app. Why pregnancy? I want to lock in my users earlier, so they can switch from pregnancy to baby.
By the time you review this I'll be somewhere around 500km into my trip. But here's the link: trustmrr.com/startup/buma-baby-tracker
Right now it's $195 MRR. I hope that when you review this it'll be around 1k haha.
That's my journey. Loved every minute of it — and thanks for an amazing event, and for supporting my build-in-public journey by liking my posts haha. It gave me more motivation to post it.
