Inspiration

This was an experiment to recontextualize the "Bully" concept. I wanted to create a non-linear, experimental art film that contrasts the "innocent" childhood allegory with the raw, real-world violence it represents—from police brutality to social unrest.

What it does

This 3-minute experimental film is a political montage. It uses the "Bully" story as a framing device, but the real "story" is the thematic connection between oppression, radical change, self defense, violence and abuse of power.

How we built it I built this in my own self image. Literally and figuratively. The image of the man character is taken from how i looked as a child and the voice is ai generated depictions I created from my own cloned voice. The story itself is all symbolism

Challenges

I ran into many challenges because of the use of children. I leaned into the challenge to test the limits of the ai tools and space. Yet when I imagined this film concept I would have chosen a childrens world using any medium I placed it in. There was also the challenge of finding a balance. How do you mix these two tones (childhood innocence and raw violence) without it feeling disjointed or preachy? It was a delicate tonal balancing act in the edit.

Accomplishments that I am proud of is actually getting through the said challenges above and finding new innovatives to tell any story, even when its NSFW

What we learned

The child's VO was the "glue" that held the entire piece together. It turned what could have been a simple montage into a powerful, cohesive political statement.

What's next for BULLY (Extended)

Prepare the "director's cut" of the "Bully" concept.
