Inspiration

Our inspiration was the old bulletin board systems and the communities they created over similar interests such as analog music like vinyl's and cassettes.

What it does

Our website functions as a chat room where you can type messages to your friends and queue up music that plays on the site so you can all listen together.

How we built it

We built it using a simple node.js backend and vanilla javascript and css for the front end.

Challenges we ran into

Getting the music player to seamlessly sync music with everyone in the chat room was more of a challenge than we initially thought.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Changing the audio effects to replicate the real sounds of vinyl and cassette players was a nice feature to implement and something we are proud of.

What we learned

We learned a lot about building functional backends and multi-user systems for syncing information across multiple clients.

What's next for Bulletin Board Bash

A terminal-based client so users can connect to the chat and server to listen to music anywhere. Even without a browser like back in the old days of the internet that inspired this.
