Buka

Buka is a community-driven platform that helps people discover, rate, and share authentic local food spots, from hidden amala joints to popular street kitchens.

We were inspired by Nigeria’s vibrant street-food culture and the lack of a single trusted directory for local spots. While building Buka, we learned how to work with geospatial data, integrate maps, and design user-friendly interfaces with React and Laravel.

Our biggest challenges were incomplete map data for informal food spots, verifying authenticity of listings, and designing an engaging way for users to contribute reviews. Despite these hurdles, Buka proves how tech and community can make discovering food culture effortless.
