Inspiration

Security is essential in our daily lives. Nowadays, many crimes are committed due to security breaches. With technology constantly improving, almost everything is becoming automated. This inspired us to develop a solution for manual doors that is both automated and secure.

What it does

We can now configure our building-security-based control system to operate in an automated mode, with the flexibility to switch back to manual mode if needed. With our security system, doors can be opened or closed from within the room without the stress of approaching them directly. Users can set passcodes for the security lock to restrict access. Additionally, a free-movement mode allows doors to open automatically when someone approaches, which is ideal for hosting parties or other events.

How we built it

We built this project using an Arduino UNO microcontroller, incorporating various sensors such as the motion sensor, infrared remote sensor and receiver, a servo motor, and multiple LEDs.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered some issues with the responsiveness of simultaneous commands because the system processes the code line by line. However, we resolved these issues by reducing delays and implementing more efficient algorithms.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully developed a solution to address a real-world problem. Although this is just a prototype, it effectively demonstrates the purpose of both the hardware and software components.

What we learned

We gained valuable experience during this hackathon, such as developing new algorithms for Arduino programming. We also learned how to collaborate effectively and increase our productivity to meet deadlines.

What's next for Building Security Control System

We plan to enhance our home security system by adding features like cameras and voice control for authorized users. Additionally, we aim to incorporate more layers of security, such as fingerprint options. Different types of doors and entrances, such as those in banks, malls, and more, will require tailored security use cases. We would have loved to implement more of these features if the hackathon had a longer duration.
