Inspiration
Having seen the response to the Covid-19 pandemic both globally and, in particular, in low and middle-income countries, we recognised how great a need there is to strengthen how quickly, safely and efficiently potential positive cases are identified. In conjunction with this, as all group members are African and closely aligned with the connectivity that our respective heritages project, we wanted whatever solution we devise to also factor in the holistic well-being of any individual that uses it. Hence why we chose to design a contact-tracing app that both educates and provides solutions in a variety of contexts, with the ability to have it revised based on the country's particular needs.
What it does
We've shared a Microsoft Word OneDrive link for the project description below. Please open the "Submittables" document first, to understand what is attached and the order in which to view them.
How we built it
It is also shared in the link below. Please open the "Submittables" document first, to understand what is attached and the order in which to view them.
Challenges we ran into
The pc's we worked with were having trouble handling the load that the programming applications were putting on it. Our computing resources such as processor power, memory (RAM) were too low so applications were buggy.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our design. It involved thinking of the many possible use-cases, and the different environments were our solution could be deployed. We had to consider a number of factors such as privacy issues, and how to effect behavioural change in the people that would use our app. One of our team-mates even got to use the design-thinking principles he'd learnt!
What we learned
A lot of frustration with our software issues had us learning principles of perseverance, among other things.
What's next for Building Rome
We'd like to pitch to each other more ideas for mobile apps, because it turns out it's quite engaging being in the mix of Android development. :)
