Inspiration

BuildHer Finance was born from a shared realization: the tech world often talks about closing the gender gap in STEM, but rarely do we see efforts that connect that mission with financial literacy. As two high school students passionate about technology and equity, we saw a need for a platform that goes beyond just coding — one that helps young women feel confident managing money, investing, and even launching their own ventures. We wanted to create something real, relatable, and empowering.

What It Does

BuildHer Finance is an interactive platform designed to teach personal finance, investing basics, and entrepreneurship — all through a lens that reflects young women’s lived experiences. The platform includes educational modules, smart budgeting tools, startup pitch builders, and even AI-generated feedback that helps users improve their business plans and financial goals. Everything is designed to make finance feel accessible, personalized, and actionable.

How We Built It

We started by mapping out the core needs of our users — teens and young women who want to learn about finance but don’t know where to start. From there, we wireframed a sleek, mobile-friendly UI, designed branding that’s clean but bold, and integrated AI tools to make learning dynamic. We used platforms like Replit, experimented with frontend and backend tools, and built features with a focus on clarity and usability.

Challenges We Ran Into

One of our biggest challenges was figuring out how to break down complex financial topics without dumbing them down. We didn’t want BuildHer to feel like another “finance for beginners” site that oversimplifies or talks down to users. We also ran into some technical barriers integrating AI tools smoothly, especially when balancing personalization with data privacy. But every roadblock pushed us to problem-solve creatively and communicate better as a team.

Accomplishments That We’re Proud Of

We’re proud of how clean and intuitive our interface turned out — it feels like a real product, not just a prototype. The AI feedback feature especially stands out; it adds a level of smart interaction that makes the user experience feel personalized and valuable. More than that, we’re proud that BuildHer Finance actually reflects a mission we care deeply about. It’s not just a tool — it’s a statement that young women belong in every financial room.

What We Learned

We learned how to turn an idea into something tangible — from abstract concept to fully designed and functional platform. We also learned the value of user experience, inclusive design, and thoughtful copywriting. On a deeper level, we learned that the best tech isn’t always the flashiest — it’s the kind that meets people where they are and invites them in.

What’s Next for BuildHer Finance

This is just the beginning. We plan to expand the platform with new modules on credit, taxes, and investment strategies, as well as introduce mentorship circles and real startup funding simulations. We want to explore partnerships with schools, nonprofits, and girl-led orgs to get BuildHer Finance into more hands.
