Inspiration
Commercial construction finance suffers from massive cash leaks due to manual three-way matching, unvetted contractor overbilling, and catastrophic liabilities like paying subcontractors with expired general liability insurance. Traditional accounting teams spend weeks cross-checking spreadsheets, bank portals, and PDF receipts.
BuildGuard solves this by acting as an Autonomous Office of the CFO—securing funds in programmatic escrow and automating compliance enforcement before a single dollar leaves the treasury.
What it does
BuildGuard is a multi-agent construction treasury system featuring:
- Programmatic Escrow Ingestion: Directly integrates with Dodo Payments to collect and lock milestone deposits into verified checkout sessions.
- Deterministic Compliance Audit Sentinel: Autonomously evaluates incoming contractor bills against contractual agreements—instantly flagging and quarantining claims with price overruns (>5%), expired liability insurance, or missing municipal safety sign-offs.
- Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) CFO Dashboard: Handles routine claims automatically while isolating high-risk exceptions into a quarantined ledger for executive review and one-click override.
How we built it
- Agent Orchestrator: Coordinated parallel multi-agent development workstreams (
audit-agent,dodo-backend,hitl-dashboard) to build, test, and consolidate the codebase efficiently. - Backend: Python managed with
uv, powered byFastAPIandUvicorn. - Payments: Dodo Payments SDK integration for secure test-mode escrow checkouts.
- Frontend: Modern, responsive CFO dashboard styled with Tailwind CSS.
- Testing: Comprehensive test suite (
pytest) verifying end-to-end pipeline security.
Challenges we ran into
- Handling strict schema requirements for Dodo Payments checkout sessions (resolved by standardizing product IDs and metadata mapping).
- Resolving multi-branch git conflicts during parallel agent consolidation (resolved by structuring clean worktree merges and automated verification).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully executing real end-to-end test payments via Dodo Payments.
- Building a robust audit engine that deterministically catches compliance risks and prevents premature payouts.
- Achieving 100% passing test coverage across our multi-agent architecture.
What we learned
Building BuildGuard taught us that autonomous finance agents cannot operate as unconstrained LLMs—they require hard deterministic guardrails (like policy audit engines and human-in-the-loop overrides) to earn an enterprise CFO's trust.
