Inspiration
We were inspired to create this site because we noticed that since the beginning of the pandemic and quarantining, a lot of people's mental health started declining. We made this site with the intention of focusing on the serious nature of mental health and wanted to promote resources that could help people suffering from mental health issues.
What it does
This site utilizes four features: a checkbox system filled with basic daily tasks, a text area where the user can 'submit' (it doesn't go anywhere. this was made for the user's own benefit) any rants or feelings, a button that leads the user to mental health resources, and a button that takes the user to a randomized gif of a cute animal.
How we built it
We built this using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and chocolate chip cookie dough.
Challenges we ran into
We initially ran into the issue of how we, a team of beginner hackers, could make something that could be submitted. Our ideas were either too complicated or required knowledge that we didn't have. While we ended up settling on one idea, we also had to learn on the go on how to make and implement all of our changes.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are most proud of how we were able to rally around each other and learn three new languages that will help us in the future. Really though, we are super proud of the randomized gif page.
What we learned
We learned that if we put our minds to it, we can learn and accomplish many things. We also learned that putting tinfoil below cookie dough makes the cookies burn at the bottom and that there is such a thing as too many cookies.
What's next for Build Yourself Up
We hope to expand the resource section of our page to include more links and offer more support. We also are looking to create an anonymous pen pal section where people can submit their thoughts on topic to a discussion board. We are also looking to add more fun activities like coloring or an inspirational quote generator.
