Inspiration

GPT Valley was inspired by the warm, nostalgic atmosphere of Stardew Valley. I wanted to explore whether a coding tool could feel less mechanical and more like a comfortable little world that users would enjoy returning to.

What it does

GPT Valley is a custom visual skin for Codex. It redesigns the overall interface with pixel-art backgrounds, wooden panels, custom icons, character portraits, typography, and game-inspired decorative elements.

One of its main interactive features is a petal rain animation. Whenever the user presses Enter, petals fall gently across the interface, creating playful visual feedback during everyday coding interactions.

How we built it

I first designed and separated the visual assets, including the background, interface panels, icons, and character elements. I then implemented the custom styling and added the animated petal effect, connecting it to keyboard input so it appears whenever Enter is pressed.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge was adapting the visual design to the existing Codex layout without affecting readability or usability. I also needed to make sure the animations felt smooth and decorative without becoming distracting.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that GPT Valley transforms Codex into a cohesive, immersive workspace rather than simply adding a new background. The petal rain interaction gives the skin its own personality and makes coding feel more enjoyable.

What we learned

I learned how small visual and interactive details can significantly affect the mood of a digital workspace.

What's next for my codex skin- gpt valley

Next, I plan to add more seasonal effects, customizable themes, character options, and additional interaction animations.
