Inspiration
Due to the pandemic of coronavirus, almost all the fitting rooms are closed. Buying clothes blindly could result in disappointments and high returning rates. At the same time, many companies are losing money because of the low selling rate. In order to help more people get the passion of shopping back, avoid economic recession, reduce the spreading rate of the disease by reducing the contacts, we invented ”Build Closet” to find their suitable clothes with AR technology for trying clothes on virtually.
What it does
If we are able to build the application successfully, it will grant people chances to try the clothes on virtually with pre-recorded measurements of their body sizes and details of clothes provided by the sellers. It will be convenient for people shopping at home and seeing whether the clothes really fit them. It will reduce the contact rates during the pandemic and promote the sellings.
How we built it
At first, we attended the workshop provided by DubHack. After taking the course, we brainstormed and discussed our ideas for the project, and we tried to figure out an approach to achieve our goal. Then, we wrote and drew the first low-fidelity prototype and discussed the details about it. By using Figma, we corroborated and designed our high fidelity prototype for our mobile application, called build closet.
Challenges we ran into
We wanted to build an avatar or use AR to fully build our application, but using what we have learned, we were not able to achieve our goal within one day. Therefore, we decided to just do a demo with Figma to showcase our ideas.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It's the first hackathon for all of us! With the problem of limited code experience, different time zones, and high pressure under the pandemic, we are just proud that we have something finished!
What we learned
Through the workshops and AMAs, we get to know many useful platforms like bubble and echo AR. And echo AR actually inspired our project.
What's next for Build Closet
We used Figma to create the interactional prototype due to the limited time of this event. However, we thought about the ways that could make this app work in reality. There are many apps out there that can be helpful to convert the 2D pictures to 3D models and the echo AR could provide the technical support for the AR part. To ensure this system runs successfully, we would ask the sellers to upload the models for their products as well as the measurements, and all we need to do is convert them to AR.
