Inspiration
Millions of Thalassemia patients in India depend on regular blood transfusions. They face challenges due to unpredictable donor availability, financial strain, and limited access to medical support. We were moved by the dedicated efforts of groups like Blood Warriors. We saw a chance to develop a scalable, AI-based platform that makes blood donation smarter, faster, and more personal.
What it does
-> Predicts donor availability using machine learning. -> Connects Thalassemia patients with the best donors in real time. -> Tracks and gamifies donor contributions to increase engagement. -> Offers a chatbot for patient education and medical reminders. -> Integrates with e-RaktKosh and Blood Warriors' Blood Bridge. -> Provides a donation support portal to reduce patients' financial burden.
How it can be built
-> Frontend: React Native (mobile app), React.js (admin & web dashboard) -> Backend: Node.js with Express.js -> AI/ML: Python with scikit-learn to predict donor availability -> Database: PostgreSQL for core data, Firebase for real-time events -> APIs: Integrated mock e-RaktKosh, Twilio for OTP & WhatsApp, Google Maps for location services -> Security: JWT-based auth, AES encryption, role-based access control
Challenges we ran into
-> Designing a scalable AI model with limited donor history data.
-> Integrating multiple user types, including patients, donors, doctors, and admins, into a single clean user experience.
-> Building mock e-RaktKosh and Blood Bridge APIs for simulation without actual access.
-> Ensuring data security and privacy while allowing multi-user access.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
-> Built an end-to-end application with real-time donor matching and AI prediction. ->Designed an engaging donor experience using gamification and social impact features. -> Created a chatbot that provides educational and emotional support to patients. -> Successfully simulated integration with national blood bank systems.
What we learned
-> Definitely a great learning experience from the point of view of leveraging AI and its capabilities upto this extent int medical science field that can bring so much to impact. -> The Extravagancy of Ideas one pf which also involves voice support in regional languages for rural patients. -> That simplicity and accessibility matter just as much as advanced tech when building for underserved communities.
What's next for CureAI
On the technical side, we plan to include secure UPI-based micro-donations. This will provide transparent financial support for patients directly through the app. To improve access, especially in rural areas, we want to add multilingual voice assistant support using NLP models that are fine-tuned for regional dialects. As user engagement increases, we will retrain our donor prediction model with larger and more diverse datasets to improve accuracy and response time. The long-term aim is to build a reliable, AI-assisted ecosystem that not only encourages timely blood donations but also offers patients ongoing education, support, and financial assistance in a secure and scalable way.
