Inspiration
Managing finances as a young adult can feel overwhelming. There are so many financial decisions to make and so little guidance. Our team recognized a gap in accessible, intuitive tools that could help people in this age group build healthy money habits. We set out to create something we wished we had when we were first navigating budgeting, saving, and expense tracking.
What We Learned
Throughout the hackathon, we gained deeper insights into both the technical and human aspects of financial management. From understanding API integrations to designing a user-friendly UI, we broadened our development skills. We also learned how powerful even a simple tool can be when it's made with real users in mind.
How We Built It
We built our personal finance website using HTML, CSS, TypeScript, Node.js, Express, and MongoDB. Our frontend focuses on clean design and seamless navigation. The backend manages secure data storage and user authentication. Features include budget tracking, spending analysis, and financial goal-setting tools. Everything is tailored to be easily understood by users with little to no financial experience.
Challenges We Faced
Time constraints were definitely a major hurdle. We also encountered issues with backend deployment and ensuring secure database connections. But perhaps the most interesting challenge was designing features that were both powerful and beginner-friendly. We had to constantly remind ourselves to keep things simple without sacrificing functionality
