Inspiration: Advay and Bobbyshai go to school X. At school X, like most of their friends, they are in a business class. They learn about business management, marketing, entrepreunership, and most recently finance. Specifically, they are learning about budgeting, accounting, and how to avoid fraud. But then they realized, while they were being equipped with information that set them up to be financially stable, not everyone had the same opportunity. Many schools, especially in low income areas likely don't specialize outside of the traditional academics - math, reading, science, history and into finance. So, we hoped to help close the knowledge gap by enabling these invidiauusl to learn the most basic, appilcable, ande ssential part of finance - budgeting!
What it does: Our app allows users to both test their knowledge on budgeting and learn more through conversations with an AI-driven finance chatbot.
How we built it: Our building focus, especially due to our time contraints, involved simplicity. We incorporated a two-fold approach; a pre-assessment to gauge users prior knowledge and a chatbot to fill in their knowledge gaps. We used JavaScript as our main framework, CSS for styling, and capped off with Vite for local hosting.
Challenges we ran into: Starting late. Being unprepared. We had to deviate heavily to using Generative AI to help us in our code because of our time restrictions.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Bobbyshai is proud of completing this Hackathon(if he does as in the time of writing he has 15 minutes left to submit). Advil is proud of the fun and engaging questions they were able to provide users.
What we learned: The power of starting early. Also even in the short time frame of the hackathon their were many ups and downs which we faced. Pushing through them helped us actually participate in this hackathon.
What's next for Budgetly: Originally, we aimed at making a feature which let users budget in Budgetly. This will be our next mission. Stay tuned!
