Inspiration
In doing this project as first-year students, we strived to explore technologies that we were inexperienced with. We wanted to challenge ourselves and get hackathon experience
What it does
The project prompts the user for their monthly income/expenses, then gives them financial advice to improve their current economic situation
How we built it
We made this website very reliant on the Gemini API, as we wanted to experiment with this new technology. Essentially, most of our focus was on the front end and authentication system, while Gemini handles most of the back end.
Challenges we ran into
Our inexperience in computer science as first year students made itself very apparent during this project. We struggled to maintain a coherent git branching pattern and not overriding each other's changes. API keys were a huge struggle to use. We know little to no JavaScript, so typing it was a great challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of our general interface and design, even if most of the work is offsourced to Gemini.
What we learned
We learned a lot about collaboration and work distribution. We all hate Git.
What's next for Budgeteer
Due to a slight security issue, we most likely will not continue working on Budgeteer.
