Inspiration

A mass number of youth, including friends of mine, lack financial literacy, thus leading to uncalculated and biased spending, which is bound to have an adverse effect on them in the near future once they get involved in the world of business. Therefore, we look forward to curbing the possibilities of such future misfortunes.

What it does

BudgetBuddy is a simplified web app that is user-friendly and helps users learn how to manage their finances well. It engages the user in fun tasks and challenges and also quizzes through which one slowly builds up stratospheric knowledge on financial management. BudgetBuddy's main function is basically to teach financial literacy the fun way.

How we built it

I integrated basic programming languages like HTML, CSS, Javascript, and PHP, as well as auth and XAMMP for the backend database. With strategic planning with the team, we decided to go simple with just a frontend and a backend as a startup for our project.

Challenges we ran into

My major problem was how to integrate our frontend to the backend database, especially since we had little knowledge on database management. However, I was challenged with hosting our program without it running on a local host, which we merely resolved.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As part of building this, I achieved new skills, especially on database management and how it can be integrated in as many ways as possible. However, I see the fact that we were able to finish this project as a great achievement since we just returned from school and had only a week to complete it, but thanks to determination and teamwork, we made it all happen.

What we learned

I I learned that of all the ways to get something done in terms of software development, teamwork is key. Find the problem, suggest possible ways to solve it, settle on a solution, make an analysis, draw conclusions, and get it done with, no slagging. And in terms of software, we learned database management, PHP, and web hosting, as well as strategic backend development skills.

What's next for BudgetBuddy

I am looking forward to getting technical support to better our web application and get it to function as planned. And as time goes on, I look forward to adding more feasible features to attain perfection on our program and helping the youth worldwide acquire financial literacy the best way possible.
