Inspiration

We were tired of seeing Hackathon projects built with no real intent of helping people, so we decided to make a change. We sought out with the goal of producing something people would actually use. As students, we know how stressful budgeting & finances can be, so we thought "why not solve a problem that we know millions of students are facing". That's why we made BudgetBuddy.

What it does

BudgetBuddy allows students to be proactive with their monthly income & expenses. We create a simple, accurate, & effective budget all on an accessible user interface built for everyone.

How we built it

We used a combination of primarily HTML & CSS & some other tools for the backend to create the webapp. We also utilized Figma for many design features & prototyping.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into some challenges through the development process. We had to learn a lot of new techniques to get the website successfully running & we really had to lock in to learn some new skills. As this was most of our group's first hackathon, the whole experience was pretty new to us & was definitely a challenge as we weren't always sure what to do. Luckily we persevered & got through it successfully.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of ourselves for being able to grind out this project. As a majority of our team is first-time hackers, it was an extremely fun experience & we're happy that we were able to get a project out there! This is a tool that we ourselves could envision using, & we're hoping we can get more people using it.

What we learned

We learned a lot about wesbite development & the design process as a whole. We also learned a lot about how to successfully pitch a product. We also learned to work under time pressure & honed our skills in programming & engineering as a whole.

What's next for BudgetBuddy

We have a lot in store. We're planning to launch this & get real people using it. We also want to partner with university & student organizations so we can get it in the hands of more people. We also want to launch internationally in nations where financial tools like this are still needed, yet harder to come by as we truly want to help as many students as we possibly can.
