Inspiration

As young adults soon entering society, financial management is a critical skill. We aim to simplify this process with BudgetBuddy.

What it does

BudgetBuddy automates expense tracking by parsing receipts through OCR technology. It offers comprehensive analysis, customizable budgeting, and a user-friendly interface.

How we built it

We utilized the Veryfi API for OCR functionality to parse receipts efficiently. For the frontend, we employed JavaScript with the Next.js framework to create a responsive user interface. Charts.js was also used to display our data to users.

Challenges we ran into

Successfully communicating the data that the OCR parsed into charts and categories that can be easily represented for our users.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully implementing OCR functionality and creating an intuitive user experience are major achievements. Additionally, developing robust security measures is a source of pride.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained valuable insights into OCR technology, frontend development. Collaboration and problem-solving skills were very important. 2 of our members also learned how to use Git and that was cool for them.

What's next for BudgetBuddy

Integrating the ChatGPT API to provide personalized financial advice and identify potential areas for saving. We aim to leverage AI to suggest actionable steps and flag unnecessary expenses. Additionally, developing a mobile app version of BudgetBuddy will enhance accessibility and user convenience, allowing users to manage their finances on the go. Our goal is to continue innovating and expanding BudgetBuddy's capabilities to empower users in achieving their financial goals.
