Inspiration
Budgeting is hard and can be quite.... embarrassing. As college student, this is definitely true with student loans, housing, food, etc.. The expenses add up quickly and having a budget is possible just tedious and boring making it feel like a waste a time. We decided to make budgeting into a game.
What it does
It keeps track of how much we are spending and visually puts it into categories. Every time we save money that money can be used in the game to buy clothes. It visually help people to see what saving money actually can do. We also implemented a feature where people can put goals down so that every time they reach a goal it can be seen. The game will also give it a $100 bonus to congratulate the player.
How we built it
We used HTML and CSS as the front end of code. This is how we were able to play the game. Additionally we used free assets for clothes and the character. For the back-end of the code we used JavaScript to keep track of everything and add functionality.
Challenges we ran into
I would say I had to deep dive into javascript more than the base knowledge we learnt in school, so there were many roadblocks in trying to find the specific functions and things such as dialog and modals that help make the pop up windows for the inserting buttons.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm proud that we were actually able to sit down and work on a project and see it through the base idea.
What we learned
Going more in depth into our learning and going out for resources on our own to improve our own understanding of the language
What's next for Budget Your Life
Making the UI more asthetically pleasing, adding more functionalities such as additional items (pets, house, more clothes, etc.), being able to save your data from going to home and back to budget, and make our currency
