Budget Wise

Inspiration

Budget Wise was born from a universal challenge: the difficulty of managing money as a student. In a world of targeted ads and endless online shopping, it's easy to lose track of your finances. As the creators, we've personally experienced the stress of manual budgeting. While we could make it work, the process was often time-consuming and frustrating. We realized that rigid, one-size-fits-all rules like the 50-30-20 budget don't leave room for what makes life enjoyable. Financial stress is common, but we believe it doesn't have to be the norm.

What it does

Budget Wise automates a personalized budgeting plan designed exclusively for you. It’s your tool for financial peace of mind, allowing you to enjoy your earnings without the constant worry of overspending. The app intelligently allocates your income to cover your monthly expenses and savings goals. We've also included specialized features like IslamWise for religious contributions, SaveWise to track your growing savings, and DonateWise to make giving back a seamless part of your financial plan.

How we built it

We leveraged AI-assisted development tools, like Amazon Q and ChatGPT, to help us generate and refine code that met our project's specific requirements.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges in the initial coding phase, where translating our vision into functional code was more complex than anticipated. It took several iterations on the prompt to get the logic and output to align with our vision.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our biggest accomplishment is successfully transforming our initial concept into a working demo. Taking an idea from a simple draft to a tangible product is something we're incredibly proud of.

What we learned

This project was a deep dive into backend development, and we gained a newfound respect for its complexity. It taught us that even a "simple" idea requires a solid and well-structured foundation to work effectively.

What's next for Budget Wise

This is just the beginning for Budget Wise. As a driven team of two, we have ambitious plans to scale the app and make it accessible to a broader audience beyond students. Our roadmap includes enhancing the user experience to be even more intuitive and integrating with online banking systems via APIs to automate transaction tracking (pending the necessary legal approvals). We're excited to make Budget Wise a bolder, more powerful tool for everyone.
