Inspiration
I was inspired by the idea of being able to utilize Bolt and test out new ideas. The challenge of creating a fully functional app from a single prompt was both exciting and motivating, pushing me to see how far I could go with AI-driven development.
What it does
This app is a simple budget tracker that helps users understand their personal finances. Users start with an empty list and add their income and expense transactions, each with details like description, amount, date, and category. The app shows a clear dashboard with the current balance, total income, and total expenses. Users can view all their transactions in a sortable and filterable list, and click on any transaction to see more details. It also highlights recurring transactions and warns users if they spend too much in any category. Visual charts display how spending is divided across categories, making it easy to track and manage money.
How I built it
I built the app by coming up with my own idea and creating a base prompt, which I then enhanced over multiple tries. Each iteration taught me something new about how the AI interprets instructions, and I refined the prompt until I achieved the desired outcome.
Challenges I ran into
The biggest challenge was getting that one shot correct and making sure there were no mistakes. Since every small error meant starting over, it required patience, attention to detail, and a willingness to iterate.
Accomplishments I’m proud of
- Built a fully functional budget tracker app from a single AI prompt.
- Added features like clickable transaction details, recurring payments, and spending warnings.
- Learned how to refine my instructions to get the best results.
- Overcame the challenge of getting everything right in just one shot.
- Improved my prompt engineering skills and demonstrated the power of clear, focused communication.
What I learned
- New techniques in prompt engineering and how to improve AI-generated outputs.
- A deeper understanding of Bolt’s capabilities and limitations.
- The importance of precision and creativity in crafting effective prompts.
What’s next for Budget Tracker
There isn’t much planned for the budget tracker at the moment, since it was mainly created as a learning project for the one shot challenge. However, if people show interest in the app, I’d be open to expanding it further and possibly developing it into a larger, more feature-rich application.
