Inspiration
Budget was inspired by the various pre-existing motivational apps that are used to promote productivity and self-care. It was improved in the way that our team found was most effective: through monetary-driven means.
What it does
The app itself lets users determine how much money is put into their accounts. From there, everything is about keeping up with their daily personal goals in order to prevent loss of funds. Each task completed results in encouraging messages and the instant gratifying feeling of having one less thing piled up on your to-do list. However, if a task is not completed by the end of the day, the funds taken are given to credible charities.
How we built it
Budget was officially created using the MIT-app-inventor. Within the application, the wireframe of the planned finished product with a series of different screens.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, the app was to be made in the Dart programming language with the help of Flutter. However, as only one member of the group knew how to do it, we realized that we bit off a lot more than we could chew.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Figuring out how to work around the acknowledged glitches in MIT-app-inventor, most of which have been addressed on the official help page, was likely one of the most challenging yet rewarding parts of creating the app.
What we learned
It is better to use a lower grade programming platform that all members have a basic understanding on to make sure that everyone can contribute and provide ample time for sleep, eating, and brainstorming ideas.
What's next for Budget
Budget will continue to expand to have a better user interface and a more interactive automated system.
