Inspiration
As a first time homeowner going through a major house remodelling project, I had to contract multiple parties (architects, constructors, supervisors) during a 2y construction project. I discovered the reality of this sector and struggled a lot to manage the construction budget from preparation, validation to finalization through out periodic certifications. The communication between parties was tough to orchestrate and despite all my efforts number of issues and disputes raised. This is when I understood this market was missing a process and tool to ease communication and provide budget transparency across all involved parties.
What it does
I built a collaborative budget management solution to align homeowners, architects, constructors, supervisors from the beginning of the budget preparation till the final certification. It includes chatGPT plugin, AI-assisted capabilities for importing PDF budgets and, just added for this hackathon, for providing budget intelligence to understand what work is being performed, why it costs money and what remains unclear. Budgets are often cryptic for homeowners, underspecified by architects or misinterpreted by constructors. AI-assisted intelligence tries to explain budgets in plain english construction interventions highlighting what drive costs and what might be under-specified in the budgets.
How I built it
While the platform was entirely vibe-coded during over 52 weekends, with deep research and PRD discussions with chatGPT and PRD locking sessions and development with Codex. For this hackathon, I used GPT-5.6-sol to implement the AI-assisted budget intelligence feature.
Challenges I ran into
Latest AI-assisted capabilities required a lot of experimentations to find the right balance between deterministic logic and LLM-based generation. Evals, as always in AI, are the hard last mile in LLM pipelines.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Pulling off a one-of-a-kind solution that attempts to gather multiple parties towards executing construction projects with least friction possible, and that tries to simplifies the budgets in pragramatic terms.
What I learned
Vibe-coding is as efficient as my ability to specify my need on multiple view points (business, UX, functional, security, performance).
What's next for Budget Intelligence for Construction
Now the feature is in place, I need to go through proper evals to measure and improve the LLM interpretation quality and ship a stronger AI-driven intelligence budget analysis.
