Inspiration

We were inspired by the discussions of finance and decided that a budgeting app would make a real impact in the world, especially among students and young people. From our own experiences, we understand the difficulties of budgeting and want to make something that would help us in our daily lives and make budgeting easier.

What it does

It is a student-friendly website that helps individuals track their spending, the website also educates students on how to invest by introducing them to the basic concepts of finance, such as investments in stocks and shares.

How we built it

We used the website Invision to create a Wireframe and then Visual Studio Code to code the website.

Challenges we ran into

The original idea was to make an app, but unfortunately, we struggled with the unfamiliar setting and coding language. Some other interactive elements such as an event calendar, chatbot and graphs (that link to real-life data from bank accounts) turned out to be more difficult to program than we had anticipated.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Managing to add a graph to the website, even though it isn't connected to real data, and successfully navigating through JS, which proved to be more complicated than HTML and CSS.

What we learned

  • How to navigate code on VS Code
  • How to create a project under timed conditions
  • How to draw a graph using HTML and JS

What's next for Budget Goat

  • Hopefully to turn the website into an actual app
  • Dig deeper and learn more about HTML, CSS and JS in order to facilitate more sophisticated web-building
