Inspiration
We were inspired by our own money budgeting goals as college students with limited funds (we're broke). We wanted to make an app that would keep us on track with our goals and easy to use.
What it does
Budget Buddy allows you to sort your financial goals into as many sections as you want, setting a maximum budget for a time period like a month or week, and view how you stick to those goals. You should also be able to set when your notifications come through. For example, if you only have $50 left until you hit your maximum for the month for groceries, you will receive an SMS text.
How we built it
We made the demo for the app through HTML, drawing out the designs by hand. The SMS notification system was set up through the use of Twilio, Java, and Javascript.
Challenges we ran into
We are inexperienced, but had a clear goal, so we worked with what knowledge we had in order to best convey our idea.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of learning more through lots of trial and error and asking questions, and getting to create a project from start to finish.
What we learned
We weren't afraid to Google and actively try to learn new things that would help us accomplish our goal and in the process learned a lot. We also learned that bringing our ideas to life is no easy task.
What's next for Budget Buddy!
Learning more about web development and using Twilio will be useful for actual implementation of Budget Buddy in a functional setting.
