Inspiration

This program is targeted towards students primarily in order to help them not fall into any debts for the future. We took into consideration of the present situation of many students and their inability to pay off student loans due to either the job market and the low chance of getting a job, or the high debt which pushes students to feel incapable of paying it off.

What it does

Our project connects to users' bank account in order to manage their expenses. Everytime a transaction is made with a user's bank account, the user is sent a notification that they are one step closer to reaching their budget and the pie chart in the home screen changes. When the user reopens the app, they will see that the new purchase impacted the pie charts and dropped their balance to lower. The program also has a facility to talk to an AI chatbot for help with their spendings and can wire to a professional financial counselor if needed.

How we built it

We built this program using the Figma software, developing wireframes for the prototype. Some key Agile principles were implemented to ensure a simple and proper workflow. Our group had to get familiar with Figma so we first spent a couple hours learning the commands and tools in the software. We started the program with a basic wireframe on a sheet of paper and later expanded the simple idea to a Figma prototype in which we added our ideas to.

Challenges we ran into

Our main challenge was our unfamiliarity with the software which took up a lot of our time as we needed to relearn the tool. We were unsure about how to use some features in Figma or we weren't able to accent specific details that we originally wanted to. Another challenge we encountered was our lack of communication, as we had to part ways on the first day, which caused a lot of confusion on team collaboration.

What's next for Budget Buddy

Our next plan for Budget Buddy is embedding this Figma prototype into Bravo Studios in order to deploy the app and release it. We are also planning on using Sheety and a SQL interface to store data and make API calls to the program.
