Inspiration
We drew inspiration from the students at our school. Being a part of our target audience, we knew there was room to grow in our standard economics classes. The courses were informative on some macroeconomics but lacked reasons for students to relate and engage. We wanted to help young people with financing and budgeting, as that is a thing that many struggles with, and thus we created Budget Buddy!
What it does
It is an app where you can input expenses and income and it will plot it on a graph. You can also plan expenses and income with our monthly calculator.
How we built it
We built it using Python and the library Kivy. We compiled it using Buildozer.
Challenges we ran into
There were some bugs in the first few compiled versions of the app. Now there is one bug we know of, but it is rarely occurring.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are especially proud of the ability to change the graph to what you want, and then our daily quotes with different life tips with one for each day in the month.
What we learned
We learned to actually use Python and libraries to create an app, and then also kivy's special kv language.
What's next for Budget Buddy
We will add a background to the app and make cosmetic changes to make it look better. We will also try to integrate it with an actual bank account so you don't have to plot everything yourself.
