What inspired us:

What inspired us was the fact that very young people today are hesitant about the idea of saving. Nowadays, 70% of young Canadians do not invest in their future via the stock market. We aim to change this by providing information about investment accounts available, with reliable, and trustworthy information about savings accounts and investment options.

What it does:

Budget Buddy is entailed to allow users to track their budgets and hold them accountable. Also, it opens an opportunity for them to visualize where their money is going. Users can access fresh and up-to-date information about savings accounts to help them make precise decisions about their financial future. Finally, users can receive real-time stock data from a vast variety of sectors within the stock market and they can access projections about how their money will grow.

What technologies was it built with:

We utilized the 2nd best React.js framework formally known as Next.js. Along with TailwindCSS and Typescript. Also, we employed Clerk for authentication. We also used vanilla Javascript and React for the budget calculator. Finally, we hosted this project using Vercel.

Challenges we faced:

We were a bit overwhelmed at first. However, we persevered and pushed through when we could have easily given up. Also, we faced some technical difficulties integrating the calculator into our website and some minor issues with the styling.

What we were most proud of:

We are proud that we have completed a viable iteration of what we had thought of initially, with functioning calculator logic and a responsible design. We kept on fighting until we had every brim of this project satisfiable to the naked eye.

What we learned:

We learned a lot about Version Control (i.e Git) and Teamwork. Additionally, we absorbed a vast amount of knowledge about React, Javascript, and Web development as a whole.

What's next with Budget Buddy:

We aim to expand our budget tool. Consequently, we will allow users to compare their habits and hold themselves accountable month to month. Also, we want to expand our investment information and provide recommendations for ETFs, Crypto, and other financial areas. In addition to sharing on social media, we envision launching a community forum that will unite Canadians and certified financial planners.
