Inspiration:
Especially since exam season is coming up, we wanted to create a website that would make it more beneficial for students to study and make the most out of their limited time. One way we thought of doing this was to create a platform that would match students with each other to become study buddies for each other. Having a study buddy for a class is always helpful because you can keep each other accountable for doing work and keeping track, instead of relying on your own personal deadlines.
How Did We Build It:
We used Webflow to build and host our website.
Challenges:
Figuring out what language and platform is the most ideal for our project and our team’s skill set was definitely the hardest part. We went from working with React to Flutter/Dart in Android Studio to Webflow. We made a big change from wanting to create an app to making a website mainly because we all had experience with web development and was the common denominator in our skills. Before, we were trying to learn React and Dart almost from scratch which proved to be very difficult when wanting to create a functioning app.
What We Learned:
We learned that it’s important to spend more time focusing on our plan before stepping right into it without enough thought. We could’ve spent more time focusing on each of our specialties and coming up with a best strategy based on that.
Next Steps / Future:
In the future, we can add more features to our website to benefit our users more. For example, we can create a section to reserve rooms in the library or other meeting rooms on campus. We can also create a chat feature so potential study buddy matches can talk with each other and make plans from there without having to reach out to them outside the website. Besides this, making our algorithm for coming up with the potential prediction percentage more accurate is something we can always work on in the future.
