The main purpose of our website is to improve student mental health. Because of the effects of online learning, it became increasingly difficult to interact with peers and find friends to communicate with.
Students strive in smaller groups, so our website encourages ALL students to make friends and communicate with them, so that they can still socialize while working from home. Socializing is important, and working from home takes away that experience. To encourage students to use our platform, we can collaborate with professors and make participation worth a very small part of a students grade. This way, it is a stress-free environment for students. This platform will give every student confidence to voice their thoughts while improving their mental health.
The backend of our web app was built in Python and Flask, while our frontend was built using basic HTML.
Challenges our group faced was our inexperience with Flask and HTML, as well as connecting our frontend and backend. Additionally, we found it challenging creating a database to store everything. Chatting was also a challenge we faced.
We're proud that we managed to get our webapp functioning and we managed to implemented most of the features we had initially planned on including.
We all learned how to make the frontend and backend of an application and learned a new skill through Flask.
The webapp is based on UofC currently, but future expansion could include implementing the app for other universities. There were also some features we did not include, such as a rewards system, that we would like to implement in the future.
