Buddy's Next Adventure

Inspiration

We were inspired by the fun of The Secret of Monkey Island: Amsterdam, a ChatGPT image and text adventure game, as well as the puzzle of trying to make the most of our time at the Google Cloud Next conference. There are so many informative talks, as well as opportunities to talk with Google Cloud representatives to find the best products for our business. We wanted to combine the learning and networking into a game that is not just educational, but also a blast to play.

What it does

We created a cheat sheet for the Google Cloud Next conference by laying out the conference landscape, highlighting key tracks, and helping you optimize your schedule. The point system prioritizes depth of knowledge with increasing rewards for attending multiple talks on the same track, as well as time management with networking and attending after conference events. By gamifying the conference, we make it fun to learn how to optimize your time and get the most of Google Cloud Next.

How we built it

To build Buddy's Next Adventure we leveraged a Vertex AI Agent with prompt engineering and data stores. We modified the prompts from The Secret of Monkey Island: Amsterdam to fit the conference setting, as well as connected an API to generate images.

Challenges we ran into

Creating images was challenging as there is no embedded functionality. We were able to circumvent this by adding in an image generating API to create images. Additionally, the agent had trouble understanding our instructions at first so it took some additional prompt engineering, and more can be done in the future to get even better results.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created our first ever Vertex AI Agent that works as an interactive choose your own adventure game. It was also a great accomplishment to get the image generation working!

What we learned

We learned how streamlined the process of building a Vertex AI Agent. Google Cloud services make it incredibly intuitive to attach data stores and build out a suite of useful tools. However, increased functionality like image creation could make the product even better.

What's next for Buddy's Next Adventure

The future of Buddy's Next Adventure has incredible possibilities. We are dreaming up ways to scale the game to take Buddy beyond Google Cloud Next to work for any conference. By making a few small adjustments to the data stores, Buddy can become your best friend for navigating any conference. As the game is based on AI generated images and text scenarios, Buddy can easily move around and make sure you make the most of your time, no matter which conference you are attending.
