Inspiration

Loneliness is one of the biggest health crises of our time. We wanted to build something that helps people make real connections — not just online, but in the real world.

What it does

Buddy matches you with people nearby who share your interests and encourages you to do real-world activities together. AI companions BU and DD guide you, cheer you on, and help you step outside your comfort zone. You earn XP for every task you complete and level up from Newcomer all the way to Legend.

How we built it

• React + Vite for the frontend
• Supabase (PostgreSQL) for the database and authentication
• Groq AI (Llama 3) for the BU and DD AI companions
• Vercel for deployment

Challenges

Learning to connect a React frontend to a real database from scratch in under 24 hours was a huge challenge. Setting up authentication, real-time data, and AI chat simultaneously pushed us to our limits.

How to build a full-stack app from scratch — database design, authentication, AI integration, and deployment all in one day.

What's next

Real GPS location matching, photo verification for task completion, and a real friend search system.
