We wanted to create an interactive and fun app that brings the user pets that are suitable for them without an information overload. This is beneficial to adoption shelters as well because this will bring owners better suited for the pets, reducing the issues animal shelters face when owners have to return the pets back to the shelter. It's a win-win!
What it does/How it works
Buddley lets people find an adoptable pet suitable for them in an engaging way. Once the user completes their profile, pets that suit their lifestyle will appear. Users can swipe right when they like the pet they see, or swipe left to continue searching.
How we built it
We used Figma for our design and prototype. For the android app, we used Google Firebase, Android Studio, Java, and Google fonts.
Challenges we ran into
Trying to stay within a viable MVP given the time constraints.
Accomplishments that we are proud of
Our awesome team collaborated cohesively and we had a lot of fun! This dream team put together a prototype and design for an app in just a day and a half!
What we learned
With all of us coming from different backgrounds, we each learned new skills (Figma, web development) and ideas (designing, UX/UI) from one another.
What's next for Buddley
We are going to keep in touch and possibly working on this project. We really enjoyed this hackathon and had a great time meeting new people, learning, collaborating, and demo-ing our project!
Future technical functionality includes:
- Migrating to cross-platform development with Flutter
- Integration with Twilio SMS
