Inspiration

Wanted to create an emotive scuplture to connect with users on a more natural, tangible level and allow them to effortlessly check in with crucial aspects of their lives.

What it does

Blooms with the weather, lights for the mood/physical state of the user.

How I built it

Designed it in Solidworks and with a lot of sketches, then laser cut some plywood, strung it together, and hooked it up to an Arduino and stepper motor. More detail found visually through the pictures.

Challenges I ran into

Coming up with the blooming mechanism and overall design (functionally and aesthetically) was difficult. Overall, we enjoyed this challenge -- it gave all of us a chance to flex our creative muscles and come up with a product that is totally based around the user.

What's next for Bud

Due to time constraints, we were unable to include all of the functionality we planned for. However, we'll definitely work more in the future to include all the planned functionality, plus additional sensors and potentially more meaningful lighting (phototherapy).
