We wanted to be able to easily analyze production graphs of various companies for specific products and we decided to take matters into our own hands.
How it works
By downloading information from popular item search engine sites through the API, the program graphs the fluctuations of the price of the product over time. The program attempts to give as much information to users about the product's economic position in the market.
Challenges I ran into
As a relatively new team, we had difficulty in implementing Java GUI, networking and API's, Java Graphs, and also databasing.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We are extremely proud of the fact of our program's capability to quickly display data in a readable form. With actual databases, even a large range of data can be shown quickly.
What I learned
Networking is extremely difficult and we should really look into it before our next competition, since it would have drastically improved user usability. Furthermore, the program as an app would have allowed it to be more easily accessible to a wide range of users as well as giving other functionalities.
What's next for Bucks Puncher
We plan to implement a way for users to select less well known search engines into their item searches. This will assist users in understanding which prices are truly superior in the market. We hope to move this to a website for users to share the information found through their programs, making Buck Puncher a more inclusive and well rounded program.
