Inspiration
I mean we have all been throught it. Overwhlemed with the tasks assigned to us, we are unable to make heads or tails of it. Feelings of anxiety and stress takes over and cloud our cognitive decission. Planning becomes almost impossible!
Which is where the idea of Buckin’, came to fruition. And no no; not in that “bucking” way, you dirty, BeeHive mind. But in the “buck the trend” sense, to differ in how you manage your time in a smart and effective sense.
To relieve the burden of sorting through when and what task to do, the extension would offer the possibility to allocate work period in the days leading to the deadline. Made and thought by students, the goal is to remove a step that is often the biggest purpotrator of procratinanting tendencies.
Just as develepoer David Chang at google said, we want the user to think “Yay! I don’t have to do it myself!”
What it does
This extension would improve on what Google Calendar already does so well. Manage your time and projects with a few simple input, the extension will be able to:
- Generate different time block option;
- Specify the percentage of the task that have to be accomplished in time block;
- Offers additional time block alternative;
How we built it
Multiple tools were combinied in order to make this project possible. Of them there was
- Notion —
- Copilot —
- Figma —
Challenges we ran into
The Wild Wild West is an unforgivable place. Survival of the fitess, yes, but there are unexcpected way for the mightiest of cowboys to fall.
Here rest our dear friend Paul, who we commend for their indomnitable human spirit, and who has succumbed to his symptoms of cold. We honour them for their brilliant mind, cheeky humour and kind energy. As we psuh forwad as a team, it was addapting to the lost of the originator tha slowed our process.
Our most difficult hurdle was understanding the many API’s offered by google. When given a large menu, it becomes hard to narrow down to preffered item, which is basically tjhe issue we were facing; we could not discern the API that were entirely necessary to does we could live without (for now). In addition, making the connection without spending 5$ for the Google Chrome Extension Client ID (capitalism and its greed) had seem tricky to us.
What we learned
What's next for Buckin'
Currently the extension is extremely rudementary. It would be nice to offer more flexible feaures for users such as:
- Process multiple deadline/genreral task at the same time
- Details what has to be accomplished within the tasks to be on track
- Option to replace existing database (calendar) with newly selected page
We would like to also offer more aestheticlly pleasing visual for users. It is said that product design is a feature just as important logic, and we do not want to neglect it.
We had initially plan for the extension to be for Notion and Notion Calendar. It would be a great opportunity for us to adapt the extension to different productivity service, starting with one of the most popular and used one on the market right now. Obsidian being another great platform that could take advantage of this extension!
Fun Fact :racehorse:
*Buck verb [l] * : (of a horse) to jump into the air and kick out with the back legs In addition to the theme of this Hackathon rousing us with idea, we owe Beyoncé Cowboy Carter for the title of our extension (again, not in THAT way, please)
