For this project, we were tasked with solving a problem that Ohio State students face every day. We were inspired by how many students struggle to find a simple and reliable way to buy, sell, or offer services to one another on campus. We noticed that most students rely on scattered social media posts or word of mouth, which is inefficient and often unsafe.
To address this, we built BuckeyeGig, a student-to-student marketplace where students can post services or goods and connect directly with other students securely. We used Lovable to design a responsive web app with features such as student-only signup, profile-linked posts, categories for services and goods, and in-app messaging.
Through this project, we learned how to plan a user-friendly interface, link database profiles to dynamic content, and think through campus-specific user needs. One of the biggest challenges was ensuring that posting a service was seamless: we had to make sure the app automatically pulled contact information from user profiles, so students wouldn’t need to enter it every time they created a listing. Overcoming this challenge helped us improve the user experience and understand the importance of linking data efficiently in web applications.
Overall, this project taught us to combine problem-solving, technical skills, and user-centered design to create a tool that addresses real student needs at Ohio State.
