Inspiration
Bubble Me was ideated by Jack Ding, Frank Su, Peter Wang, and Justin Ouyang, four college freshmen entering their campuses for the first time. During our school's orientation events, we were given maps and brochures, which we found to have mostly generic information, were not tailored to our specific interests, and were at times confusing. We initially ideated Bubble Me as a convenient way for students to find communities and clubs. However, we realized that if Bubble Me can help people find their communities, it would have greater applications in today's society. We can help sports enthusiasts find games, businesses find partners, and single men/women find dates. By helping people connect with others around the world based on their interests, we can bring together once-isolated communities and unify once-fragmented markets. We realized that the scalability of Bubble Me is endless.
What it does
1) Represent communities / events as bubbles on a map. This visualization makes it more convenient for our users to get to know the communities around them. 2) Create larger bubbles encompassing smaller bubbles. This helps users in their small "bubbles" to get to know the larger community around them, providing them with opportunities they otherwise wouldn't have known.
How we built it
Front End: Javascript, CSS, Google Maps API. We're currently working on the back end.
Challenges we ran into
Google Maps API form "home page" won't load when clicking "return home" button. This was solved by Justin when he realized how Google Maps API regenerates a map.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Independently designed UI using the CSS and Javascript that we've just learned.
- Innovative, fully thought-through plan of app structure.
- Because our file is ran locally, we innovated a working procedure of collaborating through github and VS Code live share.
- We're first-time hackers. This is some of us's first projects! ## What we learned
- How to use github copilot.
- How to code in CSS.
- More command lines. ## What's next for Bubble Me Launch it at schools as a site for clubs to find members, as we gain more users, scale it into an every-day social media and eventually into the business sector.
